Addu in a Nutshell

Nestled on the southernmost tip of the Maldivian Islands, Addu is a historically rich geographical marvel with a unique culture of its own.

It is the second largest atoll in terms of land mass comprising a set of islands. Several of these islands are interconnected by a bridge which makes commute easier and facilities across the islands more accessible.

The historical significance of the atoll lies in the crucial role it played during World War II as a British Naval Base known as RAF Gan. The base was extensively used by British Royal Air Force and by the Royal Navy up until 1942.

Today, the same site grounds the GAN International Airport.

To sum up, Addu Atoll offers a relaxed and authentic Maldivian experience with its local villages, nature reserves, and historical sites.

I was in Addu for one year from October 2021 – 22 and the sun was shining throughout with great visibility underwater

I had been to Addu in 2020. It is indeed the most distinct island I have travelled to in the Maldives.
